Main points of care after burn

   1. Body fluid exudation period (shock period)

is generally 48-72 hours after injury. On the one hand, skin edema occurs due to body fluid exudation due to burn fever, on the other hand, the body's normal function of internal organs is affected due to the reduction of body fluids. Failure to take timely treatment will endanger your life. Therefore, we must do:

   1. Keep quiet and lie flat, do not scream.

   2. Thirst is the body's normal response to disease, and it will persist for a certain period of time. According to your medical needs, the nursing staff will take you a certain amount of time (usually within 48 hours) of fasting water / a small amount of drinking water, I hope the patient can cooperate.

   3. If there are other discomforts such as pain intolerance, cold, difficulty breathing, etc., you can signal or tell the nursing staff.

   Second, the infection period

A period of time from the beginning of the burn until the wound is closed. Because burns destroy the normal defense function of the skin, a large number of wound necrotic tissues are suitable for bacterial reproduction and infection. At this time, you may have conscious symptoms such as fever, chills, headache, fatigue, and loss of appetite. This period is a dangerous and critical period for you. The nursing staff will take some necessary treatments for you, including:

1. Isolation measures-because wound exposure is the main method of burn treatment, and exposed wounds are susceptible to infection. Infection can come from your own wound or from the external environment, so you must pay attention to aseptic operation on your wound. On the other hand, you must take the necessary isolation, such as the implementation of unaccompanied, control the number of visits and so on.

   2. Dressing change-dressing change is always with you throughout the course of the disease, especially at this stage more frequently, the change of the wound surface is a complex dynamic process. When the scab is dissolving (desalting), the wound will have odor, pus, etc. This is a natural and serious process. Please do not be too nervous. Even if the operation is very light when changing the medicine, it may cause pain. I hope you can endure as much as possible.

3. Surgery-Surgery is a treatment method when the burned skin cannot repair itself. This is done by removing the damaged skin tissue and covering it with autologous or allogeneic skin, which can prevent the environment of bacterial growth and reproduction, and may also be the largest Limit the function of hand, foot and other functional parts.

   4. Body or local immersion bath-can completely remove the wound sepsis and necrotic tissue, reduce local bacterial content to control infection, promote circulation and improve function.

   5. Nutrition support-burns have the characteristics of high consumption and high metabolism, so nutrition support is needed. In addition to intravenous supplementation, more active cooperation is needed to take a correct and effective meal.

   3. Wound repair period

Superficial second-degree wounds generally heal within 10-14 days without scarring, but pigmentation can disappear on their own after several months to years. The shallower deep second degree can heal without infection for 2-3 weeks, but there are scars left. Both deep second and third degrees require skin grafting to repair, and there are scars left. In this period you do:

   1. This period often repeats many times of operations, you need to actively cooperate.

   2. Strengthen nutrition.

   3. Under the guidance of medical staff step by step to carry out functional exercise.

   4. Rehabilitation period

After a period of wound healing, you may encounter the following problems.

   1. Change in appearance and deformity-this is caused by scar contracture. Plastic surgery will help you a bit, but you need to maintain a good attitude and treat the existing problems correctly.

   2. Dysfunction-caused by contracture deformity in the functional part. When actively cooperating with orthopedic surgery, you should strengthen functional exercise and exercise compensation for the healthy side.

   3. Disturbed body temperature regulation, sensitive to cold and heat-the sweat glands are destroyed due to burns and the skin's ability to regulate the temperature is lost. Need to dissipate heat and keep warm in time.
