Types of surgical treatment of burn scars

Some burn scars are very serious and may require surgery to treat them. A large area of skin has been damaged due to burns, resulting in severe scars, resulting in tight skin and limited range of motion. Most burn scar surgery is mainly to deal with contractures and improve the range of motion, which may sometimes require the removal of scar tissue formed under the skin. The types of surgery used to treat burn scars include the following.

1. Skin transplantation

Take a thin piece of skin from the normal part of the body (usually the hips or the inside of the thighs) to replace the scarred skin. With this type of surgery, you may experience unsatisfactory aesthetic effects, such as scars (though more beautiful), irregular skin texture, or discoloration.

2. Flap transplantation

This procedure is very similar to skin transplantation, the main difference is that the skin removed from a healthy body part has blood supply. This means that blood vessels, fat and muscles are taken away with the skin.

3.Z type repair

This surgical procedure makes a Z-shaped incision in the burn scar. It reduces Chengdu's contractures, thereby increasing flexibility and reducing tension. It also tries to improve the appearance of scars to make them less noticeable and blends better with the natural wrinkles of the surrounding skin area.

4. Organization expansion

This method is a new technique, usually used in flap surgery, burn scars will be partially or completely removed. A balloon-like object, called a tissue dilator, is placed in a normal part of your skin, close to the scar area. This tissue expander will stretch the normal skin where it is located over time.

Once the surgeon believes that the skin is properly stretched, the scar is removed, and the stretched skin is pulled over and used to cover the opening.

5. Skin abrasion

This includes surgical polishing and scratching the top layer of your burn scars to make them smoother and improve their appearance.

6. Fat grafting

If the burn scar is uneven or dent in some places, this surgical method can be used. It transplants fat from healthy parts of your body to scarred areas to improve the health of burned areas and make them look smoother.
